For some, it's a paycheck. For others, it's a calling. This docuseries explores the meaning of work for modern Americans in a time of rapid change.
One of the most frustrating documentary series I've ever seen. It's neo-liberal to it's core. It merely seeks to observe the clear structural problems that capitalism has created and encourages nothing more than minor tweaks around the edges. The premise is straightforward. Former President Barack Obama voices over and appears in four episodes relating to working life in America. It starts with service jobs (cleaning, care work etc) and ends with CEOs. It purports to be a platform for the workers to talk about their lives and give the viewers a chance to see what goes on in a day of the life of these various jobs. I am a social and cultural historian at heart. The type of documentary this claims to be should appeal to me. I love unfiltered and varied conversations about people's lives and having the opportunity to draw my own conclusions. They Shall Not Grow Old does a fantastic job at capturing the wide perspectives on WW1 from those who fought it for instance. This series is
