Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be... perhaps better off. When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.

Okay so - fair warning. It’s not an objective rating *at all*. I love it, but the cast is very hit and miss, they tackle some very serious topics and don’t really follow through a lot of the time. And it’s I mean, it’s kind of a soap in many ways, in terms of the outlandish things happening just all of the time. It’s darker in the beginning, and grows a little more reasonable as it goes on - and with eleven seasons it goes on and on. Some of the storylines are better than others, some could have probably, in retrospect, been cut. But I love it. Man, I didn’t expect i would. Whoever wrote this has soul, has heart. The way they portray love is impeccable. The gritty, fucked up kind of love between people in bad situations who don’t have much of anything except generational trauma, untreated complex PTSD and each other. Micky is the standout for me. That loyal little ball of anger and spite. There’s not one mistake he didn’t make, not one person he didn’t let down ans who didn’t let him down, but damn if he didn’t stand up and try again. I guess that’s another thing I love. These people have bad shit hapoen to them sure. But at least half of the time or more yhey directly cause the problems that end up ruining their lives, and they pay for it and move on. And maybe it’s cause im from the Balkans, maybe it’s cause I get this kind of bottom-line loyalty to fucked up families, found or biological. The world is dark and full of terrors, and the only hope you have is to stick together and do your best. Yeah.
