I am going to start this review by saying I love the original series, it’s one of my favourite tv shows. In this era of remakes, sequels, reboots, prequels, reunions, reimaginings, etc, I still couldn’t help but feel genuine excitement when I heard of this one. In the end, I was so disappointed. It brought me joy to see (most of) the cast again and some moments did make me chuckle. I even liked Leah, but the addition of Kelly as the youngest child felt like such a jarring misfire for what was supposed to be a nostalgic return to old characters. Jamie hardly had time to be fleshed out in the original series because he was a toddler… so why push him to the side to create yet another younger sibling that creates a new and unfamiliar dynamic. Pacing was a big issue as well, with some scenes dragging on endlessly and others being way too brief. I think they either should’ve committed to fleshing out a full tv programme or to making a tight and streamlined film. In the end, we got a tepid and watered-down miniseries.
