Filmed at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall in front of an adoring home crowd, the show was the biggest revival story of 2009 and the first time the band had been captured in concert for 28 years. With a 30th Anniversary set packed full of energy and hits, and a set of musicians on top of their game, it's a memorable record of a band who defined an era. The DVD has recently been shortlisted in the best live coverage category in the 2010 UK Music Video Awards.
Is this a movie? No, but fuck it, but the news of Terry Hall's passing made me want to write something. I was fortunate enough to attend this tour in the Blackpool Empress Ballroom when I was at high school and as a complete package it was the best gig I ever attended. The anticipation was positively pulse racing, aided so superbly by the DJ who kept pushing the bassline higher and higher with each track that by the time we got to Double Barrel by Dave & Ansell Collins the vibrations of each note would travel through the floor and take hold of your entire body. If I could bottle up the feeling of that bass, I'd own a brewery so I could experience it every day. The entrance will forever love with me. I've seen so many amazing entrances from Roger Waters' theatrical opening to The Wall to Death Grips stern stride out to 'Beware', however the simplicity of The Specials entrance will always be my favourite.
