In a special documentary made for public television in the United States, Eric Luskin goes behind the scenes of the 25th anniversary story, Silver Nemesis.
A sub-par rerun of Remembrance of the Daleks. Take the plot of Remembrance of the Daleks, replace the Daleks with the Cybermen, replace the British fascists with literal Nazis and throw in some medieval time travellers. That is the plot of Silver Nemesis, except the Nazis are pointless because they don’t contribute thematically, the Doctor and Ace don’t do much but run around for most of the running time and the Cybermen are far duller than the Daleks. I cannot emphasise enough how the Cybermen have been an utter waste since the Troughton era. It’s hard to believe that this is the actual 25th anniversary, when it’s just so shoddy. Apart from the low-par duplicate story, Ace behaves nothing like Ace (she’s now a coward as opposed to the fighter we know and love), the visuals are just so flat and uninteresting (I think all the location shooting leaves everything to be ‘overlit’) and the soundtrack is poor. That’s before we discuss the tone, it’s very hard to create a sense of tension or
