You live in the past. Where I come from, the past is something to forget, but here it's all you talk about. The above quote is the very heart of this underappreciated sequel to Trainspotting. The whole film from the T2 in its title to the soundtrack is one big commentary on the corruptive and addicting nature of nostalgia. Before seeing this film there was a palpable sense of expectation. I remember the desire for this film to recapture the flair of its predecessor. To that end I can appreciate why some were disappointed, although personally I am glad that T2 goes in a different direction. It is an effective reflection on where the characters are in life and where their addictions lie.
