Son of the Pink Panther

How can a diamond have a son? I don't know why 'The Pink Panther' stopped being about the diamind and instead became a moniker for Inspector Clouseau, but that's far from the only confusing aspect to this film. Son of the Pink Panther was Blake Edwards' final attempt at rebooting the franchise and his final Pink Panther movie. As the name would suggest, it is about Chief Inspector Dreyfus discovering Clouseau has a son, who then proceeds to help with the investigation. Some of the old elements are still present, such as the aforementioned Dreyfus who is still played by the spectacular Herbert Lom and Cato, still played by Burt Kwouk. There had been an intention for Rowan Atkinson to play Clouseau's son, but with Atkinson not keen Roberto Benigni took on the role. To tackle the central issue head on, Jacques Gambrelli (Roberto Benigni) is an ok replacement for Clouseau.
