A tepid retelling of the infamous real-life Papin case in 1930s France of two sisters who, while working as maids, brutally murdered their mistress and her teenage daughter. This movie had some great performances, but it felt melodramatic and sensationalized. There is no solid evidence that the sisters were also lovers, and this film perpetuated what was almost certainly a malicious rumour.
