I don't know what to say, literally, I absolutely loved it, I had so much fun! From the finally overt and no longer timid criticism of the Japanese government, to the effects, the direction, the comically and accurately bureaucratic and detached dialogues, to the terror of this—or rather, these—versions of Godzilla, to what was left in the final minutes of the film, to the American and European references, the googly eyes (not kidding, terrifying), the design, the soundtrack, beautiful! After Minus One and this, I don't know what else will be able to compete. I have a feeling that what I just saw is the best, or certainly among the best monster movies I'll ever watch. edit: thank you guys for recommending this one, it was a revelation
Better than the american version. But altogether a whole different beast. The creature design is really awesome, and has rubber motion at its core. I only really have a problem with the design of the eye. The eyes are lifeless. Godzilla is back on form, and i'm excited to see where Toho will take it from here.
