Scream VI is a 2023 slasher horror film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. The story follows a new Ghostface killer who begins targeting the survivors of the Woodsboro murders after they relocate to New York City. The film features a strong cast led by Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox, all reprising their roles. It is also the first Scream film in the franchise without Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott. The screenplay is tightly structured, keeping the tension high throughout. Ghostface is brutal and relentless in this installment, delivering violent sequences. While Sidney Prescott's absence is noticeable, the newer generation of characters does a solid job carrying the story. Not every plot point holds up to scrutiny, and there are a few moments that require a suspension of disbelief. However, the film successfully captures the familiar Scream atmosphere, blending suspense, humor, and mystery. Scream VI is entertaining and delivers plenty of thrills, even if it isn't without its flaws. 7/10
Harmless fun!
I can accept the Letterboxd profiling, but I won't stand for the Argento and Giallo slander...
