A space child, lost in the universe, is abducted by the U. S. Space Foundation. In a desperate intergalactic search for the frightened little alien, his brother Nukie® mistakenly lands in Africa where he is befriended by African twins. Together they journey through the laughter and adventure of talking lions, a greedy witch doctor, a charming chimpanzee, a feisty nun, a compassionate scientist and an outrageous romantic computer named E.D.D.I.
There are several scenes where an alien called Miko is tortured by the US Government and it was during those moments I felt an overwhelming sadness at the fact it wasn't me instead of Miko because then maybe I'd feel something other than utter boredom. Nukie is a tedious slog. Simply no other way to describe it. There is simply very little in the way of redeeming features. It's not an uncovered gem that fails because it's ambition is bigger than its budget, it's not an ironic comedy masterpiece, its not even interesting from a production viewpoint. Nukie just exists as a bottom of the barrel knock off of ET. For the uninitiated, the story follows two aliens called Miko and Nukie as they crash land on earth and are seperated. Miko is tortured by the US Government, while Nukie kind of just wanders around yelling Mikos name and looking for help. Repeat the last sentence ad nauseam until the movie can be arsed to resolve.
