I don't care for what the common consensus is on this film, I adore it! It's non-stop entertainment! Yes, it's obvious that this film had a rushed production to cash in on Star Wars. We know this was rushed from the credits of the Spy Who Loved Me stating James Bond would return in 'For Your Eyes Only'. We know this was rushed because the plot is basically The Spy Who Loved Me in space. Even the fact that Shirley Bassey is singing the theme is evidence that this film was rushed (although her performance again is masterfully playful). Yet despite how rushed it is, there is still incredible quality here! John Barry, while not necessarily his best work, once again displays the fact he is the best James composer, particularly with 'Flight into Space'. Ken Adams' sets are just gorgeous as per usual and offer plenty of inginuity (the table that splits in half). There's a lot of creativity to the action and fight sequences, the fight for the parachute at the start and in the glass museu

The centrifugal assassin attempt is pretty interesting, but could have been better made. That hunting sequence doesn’t make any sense if he wanted to kill Bond then why not just shoot him? Why let him get away after he shoots on of his henchmen? And after that ridiculous scene you get a woman killed by dogs… Holly Goodhead… Goodhead really? The tone of the movie is all over the place. The gondola chase start promising out but ends up being another slapstick scene, with Bond driving the gondola through Piazza San Marco. It’s so effing dumb and serves no purpose. The Cable car sequences has the potential to really awesome, but sloppy editing, too much use of slow-motion and another awful slapstick ending with Jaws makes it dumb as hell. I really hate that moronic romantic subplot with Jaws. Aa always the Ken Adams production design is in a league of its own. The special effects are remarkable.
