Five years ago I went to the wrong cinema during dok fest and watched this film by accident. Today I saw it was available on YouTube (you find it under the name 100 Stunden Familienvideos und ein großes Schweigen) and I had an even stronger reaction to it (crying my eyes out even more) than the last time I watched it. The director is documenting the life of her mother. She starts as a happy young woman with dreams in a small town in Bavaria, she falls in love, she does what you are supposed to do: gets married, does not become an artist, has kids. She stops smiling in the home videos, she falls sick..it does not end well. My heart breaks for her and all the women that lead a life they were not made for. Never being heard, never being perceived as a person, forced to „only“ be mothers and not even being acknowledged for it. I know that my mom was luckier in some points, but my grandma surely was not and it just makes me really sad. Highly recommend watching this, but be warned 🥲
