Godzilla

&& RANDOM DUMP NOT A MOVIE REVIEW && So I haven't actually watched it again BUT will probably watch it tomorrow. Just wanted to take a moment to look back on The year that just passed and how far I've come in my journey of Media adventure and, what better movie to talk about it than what kinda started it all? GOJIRA!! A year ago I went from IMDB to Letterboxd and started a challenge around March, basically watch 365 movies in the year 2025. I started this journey by watching every Godzilla movie in order starting with #[movie:1678:Godzilla (1954)] . This kick started my interest in movies outside of Hollywood production and also my love for Kaiju's which have now become a small fixation (I'm buying every manga where Kaiju is mentioned in the title and my favourite Anime of 2025 has it's main title named kaiju if that's not a sign I don't know). Anyways to keep it short I succeeded in this challenge I set myself on, it made me realize a lot of things about my taste and how to appreciate movies another way. There's a lot of ups and downs throughout the journey and still now I have some issues with making a decision on what to watch although it has been made easier recently, now that I use Katalog. The fact I can log more than just movies gives me a bit of peace cause I can now log the manga I read, anime when I get back to it and my TV Series whenever I finish those. It's makes it so much more enjoyable cause I have this need of trying to fill a calendar with something everyday and it was hard cause my manga/anime was separated from my movies which was horrible. Anyways getting out of context just wanted to thank Dominic for this opportunity of enjoying my media a bit more. So back to the main plot, when I started the journey I was around 800 movies logged (movies I logged cause I remembered watching them when I was young and some movies randomly since covid from IMDB). I was a movie enjoyer but watched about a movie a week maximum. I am now at around 1400 (movies and series together) it fills insane to almost having doubled the score (I know still 200 to go but that feels like nothing) and I have really been going the shittiest movies as the best. A lot has happend also with my friendships cause I had to get into a routine of watching a movie a day and planned it when I was in call with friends which at some point joined me and we occasionally started to watch shit together. Made me also get closer with them and brought upon me the insane Hobbit/LOTR marathon of death with one of those friends (one of the most memorable moments). A lot of sagas have also been started and a lot have to come still (Transporter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, ...). With that my "critique" of movies has also been developed, some tropes really infuriates me and movies doing the bare minimum are less appreciated (my mean score has gone from like 4/5 to 3/5 or at least close to that). I appreciate much more creative decisions and new ways to tell things or at least the fact some directors try new things to tell something. My passion to talk about movies has stayed the same and I still like to watch random youtube videos that talk about random shit always the funniest things ( I recommend the video about how #[movie:110415:Snowpiercer (2013)] is a sequel to #[movie:252:Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)] ) To conclude this; I'm happy with this journey and I'm even more happy to have landed on Katalog after a year on Letterboxd now cause I feel even more comforted in this passion. y'all are really fun to have around and I like to see y'all have fun watching and logging things having your opinions whilst sometimes joking, feels much more like a tight community of people. Feels more human than what you would get anywhere else and that's what I needed, so thanks a lot to Dominic for everything and thanks to you all for being fun to interact with and talk to.
