So Evil Dead has become a way to give opportunity to young yet creative minds in the horror genre to experiment with an established IP and become thereafter producers of following movies? feels like it since the reboot with #[movie:109428:Evil Dead (2013)] The movies have become more horror oriented (like the original) and less Dark comedy like #[movie:765:Evil Dead II (1987)] and fan favorite #[movie:766:Army of Darkness (1992)] Anyways history lesson passed what does the movie offer? Directed and written by 2 French artists (I know them both for different reasons in a positive way). The movie has some social commentary implemented in it about || Violence in romantic relationships, mostly Men violence to women || The social commentary part seems legit knowing the director has done #[movie:1063879:Infested (2023)] which has a pretty heavy focus on Racism and living in Districts and how thst affects life and how you're perceived and so on (cool movie even if it has some weak points) The movie is pretty solid, the start was kinda slow for me don't know if it felt the same for everyone. The dinner scene was, weird but not in a good way || the rapid cut throughout the dinner was way to early in the conflict and made me realize he tried to build a sense of tension and stress which had the opposite effect. || I know the "demons" or "devil" or whatever we can call them are in general here to fuck around and cause mayhem WHICH kinda gets fucked here || I don't quite recall what happens in Evil dead rise on that part but here the demons kinda have an objective which to me undermines the whole chaotic nature and randomness of the demons. At some point it feels more like the manipulation isn't to have fun anymore it's to get to their objective which isn't what I expected? it's not particularly bad but it's a change of pace that may have affected some enjoyment for me is all || Also some things don't make sense too for me || like some demon decides heating the radiators up, I thought it'd have some importance or st least build to something but I recall only one scene where it's used and it's like 1 hour later in the movie and isn't that insane so I don't get why that demon would've done that. may have missed something tho || A lot of bait and switches eith setup of something that never really pays off or works out as you had imagined whihc is okay (except for what I talked before which is absolute bullshit). Of course we have the chainsaw reference which is okay. Other than that there are really cool scenes || mirror scenes, upaide down with the house on fire in the back was cool af, ...|| feels good to hear some classic french musics used (god I love jacques brel). Probably will need a rewatch for the metaphor in the story.
