Conceptually this story is brilliant! The plot is rich in themes (largely leftist ones due to the "communist" Malcolm Hulke writing this), particularly about race relations, bureaucracy, class warfare and the environment. The script is wonderfully textured. The cast is largely good (some overreacting on display here). Note the appearance of Geoffrey Palmer and Peter "Nyder" Miles. The Silurian costume design is striking if the execution could have been neater (but let's be fair due to historical context). As for criticisms, this is an example where the movement to colour didn't do the show much justice. Pertwee's costume is the only vibrant thing to look at, the rest of it largely beige and earth tones. Plus the colour just highlights the wobbly sets and weak costumes. Also who let the kazoo kid do the soundtrack... it's dreadful in this story. Still, I suppose this is the technical limitations at play again. I'd strongly recommend this episode.
