evil is viral and by staying in its proximity, even the most good people could turn evil. kurosawa reaffirms as a master of making us fear the incomprehensible. we don't really understand what he's (not) showing and yet it leaves us unsettled, uncomfortable. I'd compare his works with the book Crime and punishment, yes, feeling disturbed and not able to explain why
