Carry On favourite Barbara Windsor makes her debut in this outrageous send-up of the James Bond movies. Fearless agent Desmond Simpkins and Charlie Bind, aided and abetted by the comely Agent Honeybutt and Agent Crump, battle against the evil powers of international bad guys STENCH and their three cronies.
Not quite Johnny English, but thankfully not Dr Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine It was inevitable that the Carry On series would tackle the spy movie genre when you consider both are woven into the fabric of 1960's British cinema. The results are somewhat mixed, with it being a middling film when you consider the wide range of spy movie pastiches. In terms of a plot summary, there's not much I can give you other than Kenneth Williams, Barbara Windsor, Charles Hawtrey and Bernard Cribbins do some spying. After the last two entries into the Carry On series, we've moved away from the stricter plotting back to having a loose framework to hang jokes on. Which would be ok if there's strong comedy material. What you can say for Carry On Spying is that there's a good variety to the spy movies it's parodying.
