After a bunch of no-hopers approaches an employment agency, the anarchy mounts as they do a series of odd jobs, including a chimp's tea party, trying to stay sober at a wine tasting… and demolishing a house.
Carry On Going Back to Basics Having seen four Carry On movies before this one, there's something of a conundrum in that there's clear through lines in the series, yet it also seemingly lacks a clear voice. Carry On Regardless feels like a move to try and figure out what the future looks like. Previously, the Carry On movies have all taken British institutions and given them loose storylines about rebellion or undermining of said institutions. Beyond that loose framework there hasn't been much of a structure with the ensemble cast lacking distinct characters or purpose. Carry On Regardless is a departure because it is essentially a sketch comedy movie. There's a loose framework of Sid James running an agency where he sends the cast out on jobs, but the jobs themselves are basically just sketches. As consequence of this much looser framework we have opportunities for the vast to display their range. Kenneth Williams for instance is no longer restricted to playing the academic.
