A gang of thieves plan to make their fortune by stealing a shipment of contraceptive pills from Finisham maternity hospital. They assume disguises and infiltrate the hospital, but everything doesn't go according to plan. The hypochondriac consultant Sir Bernard Cutting, Matron and the doctors and nurses at Finisham have a habit of getting in the way.
Knocked up, but knocked out There's nothing that screams 'ran out of ideas' more than doing a fourth hospital based Carry On film. Got into debt and need a fast and cheap way out? Just get Hattie Jacques back into the Matron outfit, cast Kenneth Williams as a Doctor and get the script hooked up to an innuendo IV drip. You'd think with this particular installment being more focused on the maternity ward would result in baby based banter and buffoonery. Yet of the three loose plots, one is focused on a heist and another is based around Kenneth Williams' hypochondria. There's very little reason why this film needed to be set in a maternity ward as most of the humour doesn't even relate to the setting. Putting to one side the hypothetical comedy that could have been created had everyone involved bothered to make the setting relevant, the actual comedy is flat and the plots are dull.
