Stodge City is in the grip of the Rumpo Kid and his gang. Mistaken identity again takes a hand as a 'sanitary engineer' named Marshal P. Knutt is mistaken for a law marshal. Being the conscientious sort, Marshal tries to help the town get rid of Rumpo, and a showdown is inevitable. Marshal has two aids—revenge-seeking Annie Oakley and his sanitary expertise.
Tumbleweed Look it's no secret if you've read any of my other reviews that I don't enjoy Westerns, but the only thing I find to be worse than a bad western is a bad comedy Western. Carry On Cowboy pretty much follows the conventions of a typical Western, a miscreant, Sid James, turns up in a small town and causes a ruckus. A dashing hero turns up to save the day. With this being a Carry On movie though, there's a comedy misunderstanding and a sanitation worker, Jim Dale, is the hero in this case. Considering the plot, spare the plumbing, is conveniental you'd expect plenty of material to send up of a western adequately... ... Sadly this isn't the case. Carry On Cowboy is a drag. It's mostly an excuse to have co-ordinated debauchery. Sid James sits around gawping at the women and drinking... And his character isn't much different.
