The best plotted Carry On movie Carry On Cabby is in all probability the most substantive Carry On film. There's a plot that escalates, there's character drama, there's gender politics and a good balance of humour. For those who haven't seen the film, the premise of Carry On Cabby is that Sid James is so obsessed with his cab company that he neglects his wife Hattie Jacques, who seeks a form of revenge by setting up a rival company. The plot is a notable departure from previous Carry On entries, as they pretty much only had a setting with a loose plot about not trying to upset the authority figure. Carry On Cabby actually builds the plot around the cab industry. Even the final conflict is resolved by using cab drivers' skills. Having a meatier plot like this helps the performers. Sid James for instance, despite being the authority figure in the previous film didn't have much to work with. His performance is a bit more one note as a consequence as he just dispairs at his crew.
