A group of holidaymakers head for the Spanish resort of Elsbels for a 4-day visit. When they get there, they find the Hotel still hasn't been finished being built, and the weather is awful. And there is something strange about the staff—they all look very similar. To top it all off, the weather seems to be having an adverse affect on the Hotel's foundations.
Carry On's Last Resort It's something of an inevitability for a twentieth century British comedy that eventually there'll be a film where the characters go on holiday. From the top of my head I can recall On Foot in the Algarve, Holiday On The Buses, Are You Being Served?, Kevin & Perry Go Large and Mr. Bean's Holiday, so I guess it was inevitable that there'd be a holiday Carry On film. Carry On Abroad is a relatively plotless film, as one would expect from the magic blend of Carry On and Holiday movie. As a consequence, we need strong characters to pick up the slack. Unfortunately with this being a Carry On film, the character work is as expected. At least there's a series of character arcs I guess, even if they're all basically the same. I.e. everyone goes from "jumpy" to "rumpy pumpy". Events happen, such as the crumbling hotel, to give the illusion of plot but there just isn't enough set up. Ah but this is a holiday movie!
