It is truly wonderful to be introduced to Penelope Cruz though western media and western directors (Vanilla Sky, Vicky Christina Barcelona) and then watch her through the lens of her best friend and fellow Spaniard Almodovar. How her acting is seamless when portraying roles from her own country and culture and how much Pedro truly can take from her and give to us, the viewers, is outstanding. The saturated colours and neo-noir motive tie it all together. Seeing Broken embraces as an European is like the breath of the freshest air as I will always advocate to the fact that not all media can successfully cross cultural differences between the West and the East. By many lists and critics this is not Pedro's best picture, but to me it is one of the purest.
