Yes the cast is strong, yes the acting is mostly great, yes there's some great directing achievements here and there but ultimately I just wasn't pulled into this one. And while I admire PTA for writing a film that's just about a guy with a dick so big he stuns everyone - it felt like watching a sub-par Scorsese film. I was very annoyed with the music being so omnipresent in the film, it felt like a crutch that wasn't really necessary, I think there's maybe a couple of scenes where there isn't some super mega popular pop song from the era playing in the background. Sometimes it's diegetic and that works great but most of the time it's just a soundtrack switching from one song to the next, especially in the first act. It's a cool period piece and it's an enjoyable watch but I don't think it will be sticking with me for any time at all.
