Blue Hawaii is probably the most influential movie on Elvis' career. No that's not a typo, I did mean 'on' not 'of'. Let's be real, no Elvis film had any major impact but what Blue Hawaii did was set the template for the most of Elvis' career. In this we have a very loose story, a palatably rebellious Elvis and a set up that's basically a travelogue. The plot is straightforward. Elvis is back home from Army duty, his parents want him to work for their fruit company, he wants to be a travel guide. While that set up is as predictable as a frog on a hot pavement, I suspect you'll be able to work out the ending without much thought. It's not a plot that gives much leeway to let Elvis live out his rebellious James Dean 'rebel without a cause' type reputation. He's closer to being a spoilt brat really and a controlling mysoginist pig at that. This film was never going to be a character study or plot driven though. Blue Hawaii exists for two reasons, so Elvis can be a literal travel age
