Hello, welcome to your Bi-annual Avatar movie where Jake Sully is gonna fight with Quaritch to know which Colonialist has better integrated and doing that by fighting like real men. I swear to god if you replaced the avatar clans by like all the groups that existed around the same time in south America (Aztec and such) and u get more or less a documentary (with a lot of fiction) of the era. know what's crazier? it just works, everyone has seen the movie, everyone will see it and everyone forgets it. I'm living a fever dream where Nolan does everything with almost no cgi and Cameron has full blownout on the cgi (I mean it's mocap and they do film underwater just for the sake of it and it is also more realistic) and they both produce entertaining movies just cause it's good visually and/or has great world build/concepts. I can't even escape Avatar now cause I want to see the end of it all now
I'm left a little speechless. I'm not sure that a director has ever literally, LITERALLY put out the same movie 3 times in a row. I mean literally. The same protagonists. The same antagonists. The same motivations. The same fucking airship, the SAME EXACT AIRSHIP. The same final battle. The same weapons. 3 times in a row. The absolute fucking balls on this guy. They have talking whales. They have good blue people. They have bad blue people. They have neutral blue people. Since it is now a parody dynastic procedural I officially put it in the same category of franchise as Scream. It's the same thing every time, slightly tweaked, maybe someone's offspring or cousin does some shit this time, but ultimately it's the same exact thing. And worst of all — it just works? Cameron has a recipe and is a good enough director that it's impossible to suck. The pacing is impeccable every time so these 3 hour copy-pasted epics never feel like a slog. Each movie reveals about 5-10% more about Pandora so technically the fucker could churn these out forever. I do think it's a shame he isn't doing other projects, the world is a little poorer for it. I mean let's not forget this guy made Terminator. Titanic. The Abyss. He's almost incapable of not putting out a banger. Is it kino? No, of course not. Is it cinema? Absolutely.
