Enjoyable but nothing mind-blowing. Oddly slow pace for a short story. I did appreciate some sequences like Sherlock investigating the crime scene and the ending where yet again we experience a more empathetic side to Sherlock. The mystery isn't terribly engaging because we aren't presented with multiple possibilities and it's a fairly standard murder. Good way to pass the time at least.
I rather enjoyed this. Really interesting introduction to the character of Sherlock Holmes. We get a sense of his brilliance, his slight detachment and his vanity pretty quickly. The mystery itself is rather engaging (even though I already knew the conclusion). Of course Irene Adler is a fascinating character, especially when you consider the historical context she was written in. I can't help but feel the TV Series Sherlock cheapened her a bit as she became a carbon copy of how Stephen Moffatt always writes women. <br><br>It was brilliant to see Sherlock lose too. Often we expect introductory stories to emphasize how brilliant a main character is, and while Sherlock's brilliance is apparent he learns a lesson while not having his brilliance diminished.
