Isabel Allende never fails to hurt me and make me feel positive about life at the same time. The book has fictional characters but the historical events are real,we follow a Catalan family during Franco's regime, and the faith of many people including casual mentions of Pablo Neruda. (Every chapter starts with his verses.) Fav quote from the book: Pain is unavoidable, but suffering is optional. Really makes you wonder about approaching life. Note to myself: do not read a book that is very acceptful of death while you're flying. Them turbulences yesterday synchronised with the death of a character, and really made me wonder if this is the end. 😂
