Very thought provoking. It's reminiscent of Adam Curtis' work both in that this is a political philosophy and sociology piece but also in that it's a very clear call to arms that the left must find a new story to tell and that merely criticizing capitalism will get them nowhere.<br><br>There's a continuation of existing Marxist theory that capitalism manufactures and controls its own opposition. However there's a focus on aspects I hadn't previously considered, for instance how capitalism decrees the solution to the mental health crisis is increased atomisation when clearly an increase suggests there is an inherent flaw in the heart of capitalism and its attempted solutions. It's illustrative that the left within modern western democracies just leans into performative solutions rather than genuinely solving the problems at societal and economic levels.<br><br>I really enjoyed Mark Fisher's style of writing too, there's a strong sense that he is attempting to rally people into action rather than providing an academic style analysis and commentary.
