holy mastodoly, what a frenzy! the first time I have ever listened to mastodon was in 2011, at the sonisphere festival in imola. I went there for slipknot and motorhead mostly (I want to cry thinking back then I paid 80 euros for this lineup: Apocalyptica, Architects, Bring Me the Horizon, Elvenking, Escape the Fate, Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Motörhead, Papa Roach, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, while nowadays for that price I could listen to some local farmer dj set at the chestnuts festival on a tuesday afternoon), and Mastodon were given like 45 minutes on stage. It was hella cool, but throughout the years I've only listened to a handful of their songs here and there, never to a full album. what else can I say, it was epic, prog metal but more understandable, clean sound and unique writing. not for the faint of heart
